Midwest Thanksgiving travel forecast

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- After our first snowfall Thursday, the weather pattern looks to be slightly more active and colder to end the month of November.

This could impact your travel plans for Thanksgiving as cold air moves in from the north.

This weekend looks fair to travel by car if you plan on leaving early for the holiday. Cloudy weather will be the theme all over the Midwest, but it looks dry.

By Monday, a system could develop bringing snow showers from Iowa to the U.P. of Michigan, and rain in Indiana and the L.P. of Michigan.

Lake effect snow showers could persist on Tuesday in the U.P. but otherwise, dry weather dominates for Tuesday.

A sharp temperature gradient forms by Wednesday, which could spark a wintry mix from Missouri to Ohio throughout Wednesday and into Thanksgiving Day.

It is possible some snow could accumulate in central Indiana late Wednesday.

Temperatures look to be cold for the most part.

Saturday will be in the 40s and 50s in the southern Midwest, but much colder in the 30s and 20s near the Canadian border.

Sunday warms up slightly into the 50s and the 60s in Missouri, but 30s continue in Minnesota and the U.P.

Monday looks similar to Sunday, but it will gradually cool down in the western portions of the Midwest.

By Tuesday, colder air takes over. It will be in the 30s over most of the Midwest. 20s are likely in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota.

Wednesday, the last travel day, looks to range from the 20s to the north and the 40s to the south.

Overall, travel looks to be decent across the Midwest through Wednesday.

Biggest areas of concern look to be Iowa to the U.P. on Monday with snow potential, and Missouri into Ohio late Wednesday for the possibility of a wintry mix or snow.

Safe travels and have a great Thanksgiving!
