Michigan City Water Tower Park set to begin renovations in May

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Parks and Recreation Department has announced plans for the renovation of Water Tower Park, set to begin the first week of May.

"The project will include the installation of new inclusive play equipment, a steel slide for those with cochlear implants, a wheelchair accessible merry go round, ground level tactile play panels, a new picnic shelter, an ADA accessible drinking fountain, a new basketball court, and an off-street parking lot with 12 parking spaces, three will be ADA accessible," says Tara Miller, Marketer for the Parks and Recreation Department.

Funding for this project comes from a Community Development Block Grant for $775,000 in addition to a federally funded Land and Water Conservation Grant for $250,000.

Repairs to fencing will be included in this project, in addition to an ADA accessible route to be constructed, connecting the parking lot to all play areas.

Construction on this project is set to be completed by Labor Day.
