DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- The Tractor Supply Company in Dowagiac reported a retail fraud incident that resulted in an employee being injured. 

"A male subject did try to steal a BB Gun and a knife. He was confronted at the front of the store by an employee and refused to cooperate," said Director of Dowagiac Public Safety Steven Grinnewald.

"He began struggling with the employee and a customer helped secure the suspect, basically hold him down until officers arrived. During this altercation the employee received a couple of cuts to his arm however it was not from a stabbing." 

Authorities say the suspect never produced a knife or used one and it appears that the cuts occurred during the struggle near some equipment.

The employee was checked by EMS and did not go to the hospital.

The suspect was not injured and was lodged at the Cass County Jail.
