Man rescued from nine-foot-deep hole by multiple agencies

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Grand Beach Michiana Police Department reports officers responded to the 4100 block of Lakeshore Drive for a man stuck in an approximately nine-foot-deep hole around 1 p.m. Thursday.
The report states officers arrived on scene to find a man buried up to his waist in sand.
Police say rescue efforts immediately began with multiple area agencies responding to assist.
A Bobcat was also requested to assist in digging the man out.
Police say the terrain and location of the individual made it challenging for rescuers.
Authorities on scene then requested the Michigan City Fire Department’s trench rescue equipment.
After about an hour, the man was rescued.
He was treated at the scene and refused transport to the hospital.
