Man found with methamphetamine during jail intake

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. - A man was found in possession of methamphetamine during a jail intake procedure on Friday, the La Porte County Sheriff's Office reported.

On Friday evening, deputies were called to the 5000 block of S.R. 39 for a report of suspicious activity.

Two people who matched a provided description were later found in the 1800 block of West U.S. 20.

There, deputies found the two people, one of whom was identified as 42-year-old Michael Bowen, who was a wanted person by the sheriff's office and the La Porte City Police Department, according to reports.

Each agency held two outstanding warrants for Bowen.

He was taken into custody.

During intake procedures at the La Porte County Jail, a jail corporal noticed a string near Bowen's groin.

Bowen then removed a black bag from his body and tried to ingest it, reports said.

The black bag was recovered by jail deputies and was later found to contain methamphetamine, according to reports.

Bowen was arrested on the charge of possession of methamphetamine in addition to the four warrants.

He is being held at the county jail without bond.
