Man found guilty of rape tries to escape courtroom in St. Joseph County

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Ethane Potts, a man found guilty of rape, allegedly attempted to flee the courtroom after being ordered into custody as officers were placing him in handcuffs.

Surveillance video showed Potts running away from officers who were ready to handcuff him. He was then seen hurdling the courtroom's bar and running on the top of pews.

He was then restrained by a relative and officers. One security deputy cut his thumb when he was finally handcuffed.

The Deputy Prosecuting Attorney has determined that there is probable cause that he committed two felony counts of attempted escape.

The incident occurred at St. Joseph County Superior Court 2.

He is being held at the Saint Joseph County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
