Man drowns in Paw Paw River, body recovered by dive team

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports Van Buren County Dispatch received a call regarding a man who had gone underwater in the Paw Paw River in the Village of Lawrence on Thursday around 12:54 p.m.

After arriving on scene, first responders requested the VBCSO Dive Team to assist.

Authorities say the dive team arrived and after an hour of searching, they recovered the victim, identified as a 48-year-old Illinois man.

The man was pronounced dead on scene.

Deputies say the scene and investigation were then turned over to the Lawrence Police Department for further investigation.
