Man arrested for OWI after head-on crash

ELKHART, Ind. – An Elkhart man, who allegedly caused a head-on crash, was arrested on a felony OWI charge Friday night. 

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, 65-year-old Patrick Courtney of Ohio was approaching the stoplight at CR 9 and CR20 in his 2002 Subaru Forrester just after 11 p.m.

Deputies say a 2007 Dodge Nitro, driven by 32-year-old Eric Rodgers of Elkhart, attempted to turn east onto CR 20, causing a head-on collision with Courtney’s vehicle.

Rodgers was taken back to the department for felony operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and was cited for failure to yield.

Courtney was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for a broken right leg.
