Man accused of threatening apartment manager with knife

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested after he allegedly threatened a maintenance manager at an apartment building on Wednesday, according to the probable cause affidavit.

On April 27, officers with the South Bend Police Department were called to an apartment building on East Monroe Street for an armed disturbance report.

An officer arrived and spoke with a manager at the apartment, who said he was on the 5th floor of the building cleaning up broken glass when 66-year-old Robert Worland, a resident, came out of his apartment with a knife.

Worland allegedly approached the victim and threatened to cut his head off.

When the victim picked up a piece of broken glass and told Worland he would use it to defend himself, Worland went back into his apartment, reports said.

Officers spoke with another employee, who said he went to the 5th floor and saw Worland waving a knife while walking toward the victim.

The employee was not close enough to hear what Worland was saying, according to reports.

Worland was detained.

Officers got a search warrant for Worland’s apartment and found a knife in the kitchen that the victim identified as the knife Worland was holding in the hallway, reports said.

Worland was charged with one count of intimidation.
