MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Marian High School announced via Facebook Monday, that longtime school counselor Mrs. Kathleen Cook passed away on Jan. 2.

School officials say she'd been facing serious health problems over the past few years.

The school's post reads in part, "Our hearts are heavy as we share this news, and she will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Mrs. Cook dedicated 17 years to Marian, and her kindness, care, and presence meant so much to our school community. The impact she made during her time with us will never be forgotten."

Cook passed away at home surrounded by family and friends.
