ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- With winter fast approaching, a group in South Bend bought new coats and are giving them away free on Saturday, Oct. 10.
After a successful backpack giveaway last month, a south bend group wanted to give back to the community again, to help residents prepare for the fall and winter seasons.
“The young adults wanted to give back to the youth and allow the youth to see them doing something positive, that is there therapeutic place,” Takisha Jones, the organizer, and Co-Founder of Connect 2 Be the Change said.
With colder temperatures on the horizon, community members in South Bend are giving away free coats to help those in need.
The coat distribution starts at 3 p.m. at the Southeast Neighborhood Park on a first-come, first-serve basis. More than 50 coats will be hung up on the pavilion and divided into three categories; men, women, and children.
“Anyone that is struggling, foster kids, I mean anyone that needs a coat, homeless it doesn’t matter, this is a no-judgment zone over here. We don’t judge people,” Jones said.
