NOW: Local politicians react to Donald Trump’s inauguration

Donald Trump will officially be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States.

Three local Republican leaders are sharing their thoughts on the upcoming inauguration and their hopes for this presidential term.
Congressman Rudy Yakym expressed his optimism for the new administration’s agenda, starting with one of its top priorities, securing the Southern border "President Trump can do a lot through executive order to help start to stem the flow of illegal immigrants across the Southern border, as well as drugs coming across the Southern border. We want to see that right out of the gate, I think, be very quick and taking action on the Southern border, and then, of course, making sure that we can have jobs here for everyone locally," Yakym said.

Congressman Bill Huizenga said he would like the Trump Administration to extend the 2017 tax cuts and Jobs Act to avoid a significant tax increase. "First and foremost, we need to extend the tax cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 if we don't do that and allow it to lapse back into the tax system of 2016-2017 it is going to be the largest single tax increase on every American that we've seen in the modern era. And that's a huge problem," Huizenga said.

Congressman Tim Walberg also voiced his support on stopping deficit spending and fostering economic growth by finding new sources of revenue through economic expansion.
"We can stop the deficit spending, and that I know is the intention of the President as well, and to find other areas of revenue that will come from the growth of the economy, with people and businesses corporations having the resources to invest, to develop, to expand, to hire, and all of that is to the good of the United States. And I think it says to our trading partners, our allies around the world, that America is intense on leading the world and continuing that in an even stronger way, but in doing that, we also give benefit to the rest of the world," Walberg said.
