Local non-profit burgled Thursday morning in Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. -- Charitable organization Babies Basic Needs was allegedly broken into and had property stolen from their Elkhart location on Thursday morning.

The Elkhart Police Department says the call came in around noon on Nov. 14 and they were dispatched to 2931 Moose Trail Drive for a reported burglary in progress.

The operator of Babies Basic Needs reported arriving and finding a door open on the east side of the building. EPD officers cleared the building, and no one was located inside.

"Complainant further reported that an unknown suspect(s) damaged the overhead door, broke a pane of glass, and entered the building without permission, where they took assorted snacks and two coffee makers -- occurring at an unknown date and time," EPD said.

The building is owned by Cultivate Food Rescue the Babies Basic Needs non-profit shares the space.

"At the time of report, it is unclear what, if anything, might have been missing from Cultivate Food Rescue," EPD said. "At this time, there is no further suspect information, and this case remains under investigation."
