Local Michiana voters react to President Biden dropping out of the race for reelection
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- ABC57's Blake Parker went to speak with the South Bend community just hours after President Biden's announcement that he will not be running for reelection. South Bend voters are feeling uncertain about what's to come for the democratic party.
Community members shared different opinions, some speculating that with Biden dropping from the race, former President Donald Trump will secure his presidency in the upcoming election, like community member Johnny Strukeo.
“It could be a little hectic with him dropping out, there’s definitely going to be a push for the next democratic person to come up and take the place to go against Trump, but other than that, Trumps got the reins at this point,” said Strukeo.
President Biden giving his endorsement to Kamala Harris nearly 30 minutes after his social media post on X announcing his dropping from the race. Other South Bend voters are interested to see who the democratic party will nominate as its presidential candidate. The party should have an answer in a few weeks, with the Democratic National Convention on August 19th. Community member Nancy White said she will vote for whoever the party puts up.
“You know his age and whatnot and I watched the debate and that scared the heck out of me and, yeah I’m just, I’m relieved and I can’t wait to see who they come up with. If it’s Kamala, great, if it’s not then I will vote whoever,” said White.
Others think that may not be the best option, like South Bend voter Greg Rolston.
“I’m a little worried about our vice president, Kamala Harris, because of the world crisis around the world. I don’t believe that she would be the front runner to handle situations like that,” expressed Rolston.
