WAKARUSA, Ind. – Small Business Saturday kicks off Saturday, Nov. 27 in many areas around Michiana.

This is an opportunity to continue to holiday shop, all while keeping it local.

The manager at Richmond’s Feed, Pet, and Boutique in Wakarusa, said there are five businesses in the area that take part in “Sensational Saturday.” The event happens once a month.

Sensational Saturday started up last year during the pandemic, as a way to help local craft vendors and food trucks have a place to set up after many events were canceled due to COVID-19. And businesses in Wakarusa, like Richmond’s Feed, Pet, and Boutique will hold various deals and promotions on their items. The family-owned business has been a staple in town since the late 1960s. Manager Jenny Neely said it started as a Feed Mill, and then they expanded to a pet shop, that sells pet supplies, and most recently, they added a boutique over the years to their store. So, there is a little bit of everything for everyone.

Neely said local customer support is very important, especially during this time.

"The community relies on these small little shops to help fund their fundraiser to do their kid's sports teams,” Neely said. “They’re not going to those big shops like Macy’s and Amazon and all that for that kind of support. So, it’s great to support your local shops.”

Richmond’s Feed, Pet, and Boutique will be open Saturday, Nov. 27 for Sensational Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other businesses taking part like New to You, will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
