Laville Elementary School

LAKEVILLE, Ind. -- A local school district is reporting multiple cases of scabies.

In a new letter sent to parents, LaVille Community Schools reported multiple cases of scabies at LaVille Elementary.

The district said that scabies shows itself as red bumps and short wavy lines on the skin. The letter says that it's not a dangerous condition but is very contagious.

District officials are asking parents to watch for signs of rashes for the next few weeks.

The letter advises parents of children who get scabies to see a health care provider, wash and dry all of the fabric they have used at high heat, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, and place unwashable items in a tightly closed plastic bag for four days.

The release did not offer further details, including how many cases have been confirmed.

The Marshall County Health Department confirmed two cases of scabies at LaVille schools to ABC57; officials say the children were infected before the start of the school year.
