Police say the woman whose apartment it was, was in a relationship with the man who was shot, and she was locked inside the bathroom hiding after he had stabbed another woman in the hand.
The suspect has been identified as Christopher Chester.
The stabbing victim is said to have fled the state but has been accounted for.
Police negotiated with Chester for an hour from outside, even bringing him McDonald’s he requested to try to get him out.
Once they obtained the search warrant, Chester had already been threatening them, stating he had a knife and hammer.
Police say Chester came running out toward officers while armed, at which point two officers opened fire striking him eight times.
Authorities say one officer tried to deploy their taser and it malfunctioned. But due to the rapidly accelerating nature of the situation that is why the force was justified, according to the county prosecutor.
