La Porte man charged with Felony Murder for Michigan City shooting

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- A La Porte man was fatally shot multiple times in the parking lot of Advanced Auto Parts in the 100 block of E. U.S. 20 in Michigan City on Monday around 12:53 p.m., according to the Michigan City Police Department. 

After receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls, police responded to the location where they found 27-year-old Dylan Andersen, of La Porte, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

"Officers provided life saving measures to Andersen before he was transported to Franciscan Health Michigan City Hospital for emergency medical treatment," MCPD said. "Andersen eventually succumbed to his injuries after arriving at the hospital."

Authorities say responding officers quickly identified the suspect as 26-year-old Michigan City resident Gavin Mohamed and found him a short time later on the north side of Michigan City.

According to court documents, La Porte County Superior Court 1 Judge Jaime Oss found probable cause to charge Mohamed with Felony Murder the very next day, Tuesday, April 9.

Mohamed was issued a $1 million cash-only bond, and his first court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on April 16th.
