LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to 214 South Longshore Dr. regarding a structure fire around 7:06 a.m. on Sunday.

Upon arriving, the report states authorities approached the home when excessive smoke prevented them from safely entering to find any occupants inside. 

Authorities say once the fire had been put out by several volunteer fire departments who had responded, entry was made.

The report states they found the resident, 64-year-old Ronald D. Conrad, who was declared dead.

Detectives Evan Doperalski and Justin Gorny, along with a representative from the State Fire Marshal Office, were then contacted and responded to investigate.

Authorities say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
