Keeping pets safe in freezing temperatures
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Bitter cold temps can be especially rough on pets. ABC 57 checked with the Humane Society Monday to see what tips we could pass along.
Make sure outdoor pets have a well insulated place to stay, keep a close eye on their water so it doesn't freeze, and check their ears for frostbite.
"Be humane and care about the pets that your are involved in and care for. If you see a neighbor or somebody like that not taking care of their animal, you call us. If that animal is in danger of death, we can take it without even a warrant," said Carol Ecker, St. Joseph County Humane Society.
Another tip is to make sure you don't walk your dogs where it has been salted. The salt can burn their paws.
