Kalamazoo Central student facing consequences for injuring Lakeshore player in JV football game

STEVENSVILLE, Mich. — A Lakshore JV football player is recovering from spinal injuries caused by a hit from a Kalamazoo Central High School player during a game Thursday.

That hit came after the play was over.

The incident was captured on video by the mother of the injured student and circulated on social media over the weekend.

The 15-year-old injured is a sophomore at Lakeshore High School.

Kalamazoo Central administration released a statement about the situation Friday saying: “This was the action of an individual student who made a poor choice, acting on a social media video not connected to our team or coaches."

They added that the unidentified student is now facing consequences, though those details have yet to be released.

The injured players mother shared to social media over the weekend that her son is feeling “okay”.

Lakeshore Public Schools released a letter to parents that confirmed the student will be able to continue getting their education while in recovery.
