K-9 Vito retires after six years, officer promoted

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- At the monthly Merit Board meeting on Tuesday, St. Joseph County Police honored a K-9 and promoted an officer.

K-9 Officer Vito was presented with his retirement card at the meeting. He joined the department in 2011 and was assigned to Sergeant Tony Jozaites.

He was donated by the Lacopo family which owns Tony's Mobil on 933.

Vito had many apprehensions during his service and he was wished well on his retirement.

Also during the meeting Lieutenant Ross Uitdenhowen was promoted to Captain of the Road Patrol.

Captain Uitdenhowen has been with the department since 1998 and has served in the jail, road patrol and SWAT.
