Juvenile accused of stealing vehicle, leading police on chase

ELKHART, Ind. – A juvenile was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase, the Elkhart Police Department reported.

At 4:25 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 600 block of East Boulevard for a vehicle theft report.

The victim reported that a Hyundai Elantra was stolen from the parking lot, reports said.

The vehicle was located in a parking lot in the 1300 block of South Nappanee Street.

An officer activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle and the vehicle continued in the parking lot, reports said.

The driver then exited the vehicle and ran southbound towards a wooded area, according to reports.

A second officer apprehended the suspect in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Laramie Street.

The suspect, a juvenile, was arrested for auto theft, resisting law enforcement-vehicle, resisting law enforcement, and possession of marijuana.

The suspect was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
