Happy start of meteorological winter, Michiana!
The last three months were fairly warm in South Bend, with November 2020 officially finishing as a top 10 warmest November on record.

South Bend did record a trace of snow to open the month of December. Typically, the last month of the year brings just over 17 inches of snow to Michiana. Over the last two years, December snow amounts have been very low, with only 3.9 inches in December 2019 and 0.9 inches in December 2018.
During an average December, Michiana sees 11 days of measurable snow, 6 days of an inch or more of snow, and 2 days of 3 inches or more of snow. Heavy snow is slightly more likely during January.
Unfortunately for snow-lovers and winter sports enthusiasts, it looks like this could be a third-straight dud of a December. Most of our long-range forecast models are pointing to a mild and dry December across the Midwest.
