Intoxicated man leads MCSD on manhunt Tuesday night

Marshall County Jail

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- An allegedly intoxicated man managed to evade police for a few hours Tuesday night before a Marshall County Sheriff's Department drone and K-9 were able to locate him in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 28.

The MCSD was requested to the 5000 block of Michigan Road around 9 p.m. on Tuesday on reports of an unwanted guest.

"The caller stated that the male, later identified as 38-year-old Joshua Carroll, was intoxicated, being aggressive while at the residence, and then began driving up and down the road revving his vehicle’s engine," the MCSD said.

When deputies arrived, Carroll fled from the vehicle on foot.

"Deputies located Carroll behind a residence, but he fled from law enforcement again," the MCSD said. "MCSD’s drone and K-9 Unit were utilized to search for Carroll. While still searching for Joshua at approximately 1 a.m., Marshall County Central Dispatch received a call from a resident in the 6,000 block of Lilac Road advising of an unknown male subject pounding on their door."

The caller told authorities they believed the man was under the influence and gave a description matching Carroll.

"While law enforcement was responding, the caller stated the male became aggressive and was now being pinned down and held at gun point," the MCSD said. "The male subject fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival."

When deputies arrived on Lilac Road, they employed a drone and K9 Diesel to find Carroll.

"A short time later, K-9 Diesel located the male, identified as Carroll, hiding underneath heavy machinery equipment in a construction yard nearby," the MCSD said. "K-9 Diesel was utilized to apprehend Carroll after he refused to comply with law enforcement commands."

He was taken into custody and taken from the scene to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth to be treated for his injuries and a chemical test.

The results of the chemical test found Carroll to be over twice the legal limit of alcohol.

From there, he was taken to the Marshall County Jail and booked on charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated with a Prior Conviction – Level 6 Felony, and Resisting Law Enforcement – Class A Misdemeanor.

He is currently being held on a $1,505 bond.
