Interurban Trolley makes slight route change which aims to improve service
ELKHART, Ind. -- Officials with Interurban Trolley announced there will be a small service change to the Green Line between Holiday Village and the former Martin’s on the Northwest Side of Elkhart.
Officials say the minor change aims to make service faster and more reliable, reducing the conflicts between trolleys and school buses.
Officials say the changes will also expand services to a new corridor along C.R. 10, including a new bus stop outside Bonnell Aluminum and the Elkhart Career Center Annex.
The service change will affect trolleys after the stop at Holiday Village. Officials say buses will now turn north onto C.R. 10, right onto John Weaver Parkway, and continue straight across Bristol Street/S.R. 15 into the shopping plaza.
Trolleys will then turn left along the driveway by the strip mall before making a new stop in front of Subway in the shopping plaza.
Officials say that's when they resume the current route, turning right onto Bristol Street at the intersection across from Thornton Street.
Passengers who board along California Road and C.R. 3, including outside the Four Seasons Manufactured Home Community, the Town and Country, and Avalon West Apartments, must now head to the opposite side of C.R. 3 or California Road to board up to five minutes earlier, according to officials.
Passengers who currently board outside the former Martin’s off Nappanee and Bristol Streets will need to go to the new bus stop in front of the Subway.
Officials say as with all Interurban Trolley routes, the Green Line will continue to operate as a hybrid flag stop system with both posted bus stop signs and a flag stop system where passengers can flag them down on the far side of any intersection.
The route change has gone into effect as of Monday, Dec. 2.
