Intense storm passes over St. Joseph County Tuesday evening, leaving hundreds without power

UPDATE: As of 8:21 p.m. there are still approximately 904 Indiana Michigan Power customers without power in Saint Joseph County.

ORIGINAL: ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Hundreds of Indiana Michigan Power customers had their lights go out Tuesday evening as an intense storm passed through the county on a day of record-setting high temperatures. 

As of 5:45 p.m., 2,741 customers are without power in St. Joseph County

  • 1776 in the area of Ironwood and SR-23
  • 425 near Lafayette Elementary
  • 209 just north of the Rum Village neighborhood
  • 134 around the Swanson Highland neighborhood

There are currently 155 customers without power in Elkhart County, but those numbers could grow as the storm moves East.
