Elkhart County Jail: Anthony D. Jones Jr. ELKHART, Ind. -- A 44-year-old Indianapolis man is facing a plethora of felonies and misdemeanors after leading Elkhart police in a pursuit while driving a reportedly stolen car.
The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office officially charged the suspect, Anthony D. Jones Jr., with Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 5 Felony, Auto Theft, a Level 6 Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony, Possession of Cocaine, a Level 6 Felony, two counts of Unlawful Possession or Use of a Legend Drug, both Level 6 Felonies, Intimidation, a Level 6 Felony, Driving while Suspended-Prior, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated, a Class C Misdemeanor.
On Oct. 30, Elkhart police say an officer attempted a traffic stop around 5:19 p.m. on a Dodge Stratus near Cassopolis Street and Bristol Street. Police say the Stratus was reported stolen out of Goshen.
The report states the driver, later identified as Jones, ignored the officer's emergency lights and siren before driving west on Bristol Street at a high speed.
Other EPD officers assisted in the pursuit by blocking intersections along the route to reduce the risk to other motorists.
During the pursuit, police say Jones drove at high speeds on main roads and through residential neighborhoods, disregarding several stop signs.
Jones allegedly disregarded the traffic lights at Cassopolis and Emerson Streets while traveling north on Cassopolis at a high speed. Jones then traveled east on M-205 before losing control at the roundabout at Five Points Road in Edwardsburg, disabling the Stratus.
Authorities say Jones exited the car and fled while ignoring officer commands before being detained and arrested at around 5:32 p.m. Police learned he didn't have a driver's license, only a regular ID car with a status of suspended prior.
Jones allegedly showed signs of possible impairment or intoxication. Officers say they found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, pills, methamphetamine, and cocaine inside the Stratus.
Officers also learned Jones had multiple outstanding warrants out of Marion County and St. Joseph County, Mich. as well as a parole violation warrant.
Jones was taken to the hospital for medical clearance after complaints of pain. An EPD office applied for and obtained a blood draw search warrant, which was done at the hospital. The results are pending.
While at the hospital, the Jones allegedly threatened an officer and his family.
Jones was taken to Elkhart County Jail for his outstanding warrants and new charges from this incident. Jones' bond was set at $100,000 surety/10 percent cash.
