Indiana State Police release autopsy results for inmate who died at St. Joseph County Jail

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.—Indiana State Police have concluded their investigation into the death of an inmate who died at the St. Joseph County Jail on September 2.

An autopsy on Jason Peters, 37, of South Bend, was performed and it determined the cause of death to be “Heroin, Fentanyl and Methamphetamine toxicity due to rectal absorption,” Indiana State Police said Monday.

The manner of death was deemed accidental and no traumatic injuries were observed, police said.

Peters was found unresponsive in a medical isolation unit at the jail on September 2 and pronounced deceased about 30 minutes later.
