Indiana State Police investigating inmate's death

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Indiana State Police are investigating the death of an inmate who died at the St. Joseph County Jail Wednesday morning.

The inmate, 37-year-old Jason Peters, was found unresponsive in the medical isolation unit at approximately 8:40 a.m.

Jail staff began performing CPR until medical technicians arrived.

Peters was pronounced deceased at 9:09 a.m.

Police said he was in the cell alone.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday in Fort Wayne.

Jail records show Peters was booked at 3:23 a.m. on preliminary charges of resisting arrest, OWI bodily injury, leaving the scene of a crash and reckless driving.
