Indiana State Fair 2023 theme is 'basketball', features partnership with Pacers

The 2023 Indiana State Fair theme will celebrate the game Hoosiers love from the shores of Lake Michigan to the banks of the Ohio River: basketball.

In partnership with Pacers Sports & Entertainment, the Indiana State Fair will celebrate "the state that grew the game" from July 28 to August 20, Indiana Governor Holcomb announced from his own basketball court Monday morning.

“The Indiana State Fair is an annual celebration of agriculture, entertainment, and what it means to be a Hoosier,” Governor Eric J. Holcomb said. “Perhaps the only other Hoosier tradition that brings together as many fans, as much nostalgia, and that sense of hometown pride is the love of basketball that’s swept our state for more than a century, which makes it the perfect theme for this year’s fair.”

Hoosiers can expect a number of interactive experiences at next year's fair, including a basketball amusement park, player meet and greets, exhibits paying homage to Indiana's basketball history, and more.

The game grew in correlation with Indiana's agriculture, according to fair officials. Basketball was cheap and affordable to play, and the season was based on farmers' planting and harvest seasons.

The Fairgrounds' Indiana Farmers Coliseum has hosted a number of high school championships, the ABA Pacers, and All-Star Games.
