Improved flood monitoring project canceled in Marshall County due to grant termination

U.S. DHS, FEMA, Marshall County EMA

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- Marshall County Emergency Management announced via a since-deleted social media post that an improved flood monitoring project will not be moving forward following the termination of the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant program by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

County EMA officials said they've applied for BRIC grants for several years which aided in planning and disaster mitigation in Marshall County.

Officials say they were in the midst of this year's application process for improved flood monitoring when this decision was reached.

“The BRIC program was yet another example of a wasteful and ineffective FEMA program," a FEMA spokesperson said.

"It was more concerned with political agendas than helping Americans affected by natural disasters. Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, we are committed to ensuring that Americans in crisis can get the help and resources they need."
