ELKHART, Ind. -- Indiana Michigan Power has made Elkhart brighter and more environmentally conscious by completing a new upgrade that swapped 3,000 streetlights with LED’s.
Elkhart is the first city to partner with I&M for this project, and the LED’s are set to use 40 to 60% less energy than the typical streetlight.
Elkhart Mayor, Rod Roberson, notes how crucial the brighter lights will be for safety purposes when the sun goes down.
"One we are able to make the streets a little bit safer, a little bit lighter. Which is good for certain neighborhoods. It's also safer for some of our alleyways. To ensure that we're lighting them up," said Roberson.
