SOUTH BEND, Ind. - There are new details on the pro-Palestinian protestors arrested on campus at Notre Dame recently.

Hundreds of professors and faculty members have written a letter to university leaders, asking them to drop all disciplinary charges against the students.

Last Thursday night, 17 peaceful protesters were handcuffed and arrested, in the rain, by Notre Dame Police.

The students were all charged with trespassing for refusing orders to leave what's known as the "God Quad" on campus.

They also face school disciplinary hearings, and the professors fear there will be lasting damage to their careers and futures.

The letter reads in part:

"Not all of us endorse all of their positions or strategies, but we are clear that minor acts of dissent on campus should not be met with criminalizing responses… We know the decision to drop charges sits with the county prosecutor, but we hope you will vociferously encourage them to do so...We hope you will also drop all university sanctions without delay."

There's been no comment from Notre Dame leadership at this time.
