How the nor'easter affects Michiana weather

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- While the nor’easter that affected New England wasn’t anywhere near Michiana, it did impact our weather.

We are very thankfully not seeing the brunt of the blizzard in the northeast, but it did bring snow totals close to what some areas in the northeast saw here in Michiana.

That’s right the Lake Effect snow, and frigid conditions this weekend were all thanks to the nor’easter, just showing you how strong of a system it was.

Now, this was a low-pressure system that picked up in intensity in the Carolinas and headed out to sea. Funneling in a lot of moisture, becoming stronger, and making its way up the coast.

With low pressure systems rotating counterclockwise, if you are on the west side of one, winds will dominantly be flowing from the north. As that was the dominant pressure system for most of the eastern United States, we were subject to the northerly winds, bitter cold conditions and yes, the snow.

Michiana did see snow from the Blizzard of ‘26, albeit in a very roundabout way.
