Hotel costs skyrocket for ND v IU game

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The historic Irish/Hoosier face-off is right around the corner, but those coming into town might face special event prices when booking a place to stay.

With 42 years of experience in the travel industry, the owner of Signal Travel and Tours, Michele Boyd, said these costs are no surprise for events like the game.

“Matter of supply and demand. People are wanting to come to the game and if they do, there’s limited capacity of rooms and travel arrangements, so you will pay a premium,” said Boyd.

Even other options, like renting a house for the weekend, have higher than usual prices. So, Notre Dame senior, Gorge Goldstein said many fans coming to the game are getting creative when it comes to finding a spot to sleep.

“Even the Airbnbs are like super expensive… trying to rent a house right now would be even more than a hotel… My friends who graduated pretty recently that are flying in, they’re all kind of looking to just stay at someone’s house, like sleep on the couch or something like that, trying to avoid paying for the hotel,” said Goldstein.

However, not everyone can avoid paying for a place to stay. Boyd said to keep an eye on the hotels closer to game day, because they might end up dropping the prices if they still have rooms available.

“They might reduce them, or they may become more negotiable… they may change the prices, they may not. It just depends,” said Boyd.
