ELKHART, Ind. -- At approximately 4:54 p.m. the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a crash between a horse and buggy and a Chevrolet Silverado on C.R. 3 north of C.R. 52.

Deputies state the horse and buggy were traveling northbound on C.R. 3, when the horse was spooked by a combine on the eastside of C.R.3 in a field.

The horse then crossed into the center line, traveling into the southbound lane into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado.

The driver of the horse and boggy was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. The horse died at the scene.
