Hit-and-run crash at a home ends with Jeep in woods, driver charged with OWI

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a hit-and-run crash in the 81000 block of M-51 in Decatur Township around 2:30 a.m. on May 3.

Authorities determined a red Jeep Cherokee had gone off the road, struck a sign, and then hit a house, causing minor damage to the siding

The report states the suspects fled the scene in the Jeep. Deputies and assisting agencies arrived and checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

At 2:45 a.m., authorities say they responded to a report of a traffic crash in the 61000 block of C.R. 665 in Paw Paw Township.

Upon arrival, deputies say they found a red Jeep that had gone off the road and crashed into a wooded area.

Authorities say the three occupants suffered minor injuries with two of them refusing medical treatment.

The third occupant was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Deputies say all three refused to give any statement regarding the crash.

The report states during the investigation, deputies found the Jeep had paint transfer on it that was consistent with the house siding damaged in the previous crash.

The Jeep's driver, a 19-year-old Kalamazoo, was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of a Crash.
