Helping area students during hunger action month

 SOUTH Bend, Ind. - Kids in Michiana are getting help during Hunger Action Month. 


Thursday, a special program launched that will keep Michiana kids from going hungry. 


The program called, "Food 4 Kids Fun Pack." will help kids in at least three counties. 


"Each year we have a goal of impacting more kids," said Milt Lee, the Executive Director for the Food Bank of Northern Indiana. 


Food 4 Kids will help serve eligible students from K through 6th grade. They will receive a bag of food for the weekend and during holiday breaks when they don't have access to the school lunch program. 


"Every time we have an opportunity like this to connect with schools, we get closer to our goal to eliminate food insecurity," Lee said. 


There are several schools taking part in the program, they are listed below: 


Elkhart County: 

Chandler, Eastood & Mary Daly


La Porte County:

Hailmann and Handley 


St. Joseph County (IN): 

LaSalle, Meadow's Edge and Xaiver.
