Heavy snow Wednesday night, as lake effect band intensifies

There will be a band of extremely heavy lake effect snow between South Bend and Michigan City, Wednesday night. There is good confidence potions of the area will get upwards of a foot of snow. However, there is much uncertainty as to how sharp that cutoff will be? In a most extreme example, some models have a difference of 2 to 20 inches of snow over 20 miles. It is most likely that the band will setup close to New Carlise and run north/south along the St. Joseph / LaPorte County line into Starke County. This will also impact areas close to Three Oaks in Berrien Co. Outside of that you should plan for winter impacts but a high variance in snowfall totals. Area east of US-31 in Northern Indiana may minor amounts of snowfall. If that band swings like a sprinkler, then snow totals maybe be more evenly dispersed between Michigan City and South Bend. This round of lake effect snow will end Thursday morning.

The pattern stays active with more snow and colder weather this weekend, lows drop to the single digits by Sunday morning.

Tonight: Heavy lake effect snow, breezy. Low 16.

Thursday: Lake effect snow in morning, some sun in afternoon. High 24.

Friday: Snow showers. High 34.

Saturday: Lake effect snow. High 20
