Governor Braun issues federal emergency response declaration due to winter storms
WTHR/NBC INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- On Saturday, Jan. 24, the state of Indiana has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of the incoming winter storm.
Indiana Governor Mike Braun posted on his social media on Saturday that, in addition to the federal emergency response declaration, he has also signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency and has directed the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to take over emergency response efforts.
Braun has also directed executive branch agencies to provide assistance and resources requested by IDHS.
The statewide disaster emergency will continue for 60 days, unless terminated earlier.
President Donald Trump posted on social media on Saturday afternoon that he approved an emergency declaration for Indiana in relation to the winter storm.
The Indiana Department of Homeland Security State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) was activated around noon on Jan. 24 to coordinate the response to the incoming winter storm.
