NOW: Fundraising efforts continue for New Prairie Baseball Team Player

NEW CARLISLE, Ind. -- Nearly a month after tragedy struck the New Prairie community, support continues to pour in for the Cougars. The town is rallying around junior varsity baseball player Lucas Bradshaw, who was seriously injured when a truck fleeing police crashed into the team’s bus.

As the varsity team celebrated a comeback win that advanced them to the sectional semifinals, surrounding communities are rallying around the program as well.

Local businesses are stepping up in a big way. From car washes to restaurant fundraisers are popping up across the region. On Friday afternoon, Healthy Life in LaPorte donated a percentage of its sales in support of Lucas and his teammates.

Krista Taschler, owner of Healthy Life, said community ties run deeper than sports rivalries.

“LaPorte and New Prairie have always been rivals in team sports,” Taschler said. “But when things like this happen, we all come together. Rather than rivalries, we’re a community.”
