ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The Saint Joseph County Fire Territory announced Thursday that a barn fire took the lives of multiple farm animals, though firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings.

Around 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Saint Joseph County Fire Territory crews were dispatched to a structure fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found a 30-by-50-foot barn in flames. The firefighters contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to a nearby residential structure and second barn.

Several farm animals were trapped inside of the barn and died in the fire.
