Fire department identifies two victims of fire in Dowagiac

The Dowagiac Fire Department has released the names of the two people who died in a fire on Telegraph Street Thursday morning.

They have been identified as 36-year-old Dolly Sue Waterson and 36-year-old Gregory Alan Heron.

The Dowagiac Fire Department responded to 310 E. Telegraph at 6:45 am. and found the home with flames visible in the front and side of the home.

Once fire crews were able to enter the home and search, the victims were found in a room on the second floor.

Firefighters say it appears the fire started on the first floor and up the stairs, blocking the only exit.

There were no smoke detectors in the home.

The Fire Investigation Unit says the fire’s cause is still under investigation but it appears to be accidental.
