Car found in St. Joseph River early Tuesday morning

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Fire crews were called out for a water rescue in South Bend early Tuesday morning. Initial reports said a car was sinking in the St. Joseph River with its lights still on.

Officials responded to Darden Road and Riverside Drive at 1:47 a.m.

Boats were deployed to search the car, but no one was found inside.

An investigation will be ongoing, but initial reports assume the car went in the water near the boat launch.
