VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a fight in progress in Hartford with shots fired in the 400 block of S. Mary Street around 1:16 a.m. Monday.

Upon arrival, deputies found an unresponsive 42-year-old Hartford area man.

Life saving measures were taken, but the man was pronounced dead.

Deputies then requested the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Authorities say the case remains open and ongoing.

The suspect, identified as a 41-year-old Hartford area woman, is in custody and awaiting arraignment.

Authorities say more information will be released as the case develops. 

The sheriff's office emphasizes there are no safety concerns for the public.
