ABC 57

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Michigan State Police Niles Post reports troopers are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash between a John Deere tractor and a pickup truck.

Police say the crash occurred on Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. on Calvin Center Road near Calvin Hill Street in Calvin Township.

The report states a pickup truck, driven by a 36-year-old Marcellus man, was traveling south on Calvin Center Road when it collided with a John Deere farming tractor, driven by a 73-year-old Cassopolis man, traveling in the same direction.

The 73-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup truck driver and his passengers sustained minor injuries. They were wearing seatbelts at the time.

Authorities say drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors.

MSP said distracted driving may have contributed to the crash.

"Drivers in rural Michigan should expect slow-moving farm vehicles this time of year," said Lt. DuWayne Robinson,

The investigation is ongoing.
