South Bend community gathers for protest at courthouse
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.—The family of Avery Brown, who was shot and killed at the now-closed Bleachers Bar in Mishawaka on September 21, is speaking out.
ABC57 sat down with Brown’s mother and extended family on Thursday.
Brown’s family described him as “a jokester, a basketball fanatic, and an all-around good member of the family.”
The primary suspect in the killing, Timothy Marcus Mayberry, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in South Carolina on December 12.
Mayberry was formally charged in October for one count of murder.
Brown’s mother, Linda, said she was rejoicing when she found out that the suspect had been apprehended.
“I have no bad feelings for Mayberry. I pray for him, that God will save him. That’s what I do, because you can’t have bad feelings. My son will never come back.”
A memorial basketball tournament to honor Brown is in the works for February, one day before what would have been Brown’s 29th birthday.
