NOW: Everwise Credit Union turns day off into ’Day of Giving’

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Everwise Credit Union’s employees are getting a day off from the office as they gear up for their 5th annual “Day of Giving,” where they plan to volunteer with at least 45 different non-profit organizations across South Bend and southwestern Michigan.

The "Day of Giving" will reflect Everwise Credit Union's gathering of over 650 employees to volunteer at locations across the area to come together to create a meaningful impact.

Food bank services will be spread across north central Indiana serving Elkhart, La Porte, Kosciusko, Marshall, Starke, and St. Joseph Counties.

Employees will gather from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to serve the surrounding community filling their workday getting their hands dirty with yard work, organizing, food packing, and cleaning.

Locations they will be lending a helping hand on Monday:

  • Food Bank of Northern Indiana - Food packing, boxing, cleaning, and organizing inside as well as outside yard work.
  • Wellfield Botanical Gardens and Nature Center - Fall clean-up of grounds.
  • The Crossing School of Business and Entrepreneurship - Cleaning, organizing, painting, and log splitting.
  • All 4 Animals Rescue Animal Rescue Shelter - Cleaning shelter, feeding animals, and assisting in shelter maintenance.
  • New Buffalo Parks Department Community Parks - Fall clean-up, including raking, cutting grass, flowers, and trimming trees.
  • Plymouth Parks Department - Park beautification, including fall clean-up, painting, and special projects.

Brandon Demitruk, Vice President of Finance and Treasury at Everwise Credit Union highlighted the purpose of the day.

“It’s the day of giving but we give every day. There are different teams that volunteer on a regular basis. We have a number of employees that volunteer on different boards serving within the community.” said Demitruk, “I'm on the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, I serve on the board there, and a number of other people that serve on various boards. There's YWCA, Habitat for Humanity, whatever it may be, there's those opportunities where we look forward to giving back to the community.”
