ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – On Monday, Elkhart students that picked up meals as part of a summer meal program were given some free books as well. The giveaway happened at eight different Elkhart elementary schools as part of Elkhart Public Library’s Free Books to Feed Minds program.
According to officials, the program’s aim is to get young minds away from electronics during the summer to keep their mind sharp for fall classes.
“In this world where we’re all staring at screens it’s kind of a nice break a lot of times and you know it’s something the families can do together. Even if you’re not reading to your kids, you know everybody in the family can pick up a book and read on their own,” said Sam Householder, New Media Marketing Specialist for Elkhart Public Library.
Books were sorted for different ages to ensure everyone got a book they’d enjoy.
